Hyundai Car Dashboard Symbols and Meanings

As soon as a dashboard warning light illuminates, driver’s minds begin to race with the fear of a vehicle malfunction or costly repair. While some warning lights unfortunately spell trouble, others can simply indicate what systems are in use. To help navigate what your Hyundai dashboard might be telling you, find the Hyundai dashboard warning light symbols and what they mean below.

Supplemental Restraint System Warning Light

This light will turn on each time you start the car. If it does not turn off after approximately 6 seconds, visit your local Hyundai service center.

Seat Belt Warning Light

This light turns on to alert the driver that someone does not have their seat belt fastened.

Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Light

If this light illuminates for longer than 6 seconds, either your parking brake has been applied or your brake fluid is running low.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light

If this light is illuminated for more than 6 seconds, something may be wrong with your anti-lock brake system. Visit your local Hyundai service center. Note – you will still have normal brake function.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) System Warning Light

When both the anti-lock braking system warning light and the parking brake and brake fluid warning lights are illuminated at the same time, your vehicle’s braking system has malfunctioned and will not function properly. This can cause very serious driving hazards. Avoid high speed driving and sudden braking and visit your local Hyundai service center ASAP.

Electric Power Steering (EPS) Warning Light

If this light is illuminated after the engine has turned on, there may be a problem with your electric power steering system. Visit your local Hyundai service center.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)

If this light remains on after the engine has turned on, there may be a problem with your emission control system or catalytic converter. Visit your local Hyundai service center.

Charging System Warning Light

If the charging system warning light is illuminated after the engine begins running, your vehicle’s battery is not being charged.

Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light

This light signals that your engine oil pressure is low. Pull over to a safe location and turn off your vehicle. Check your oil levels and add oil as needed. If this does not turn the light off or spare oil is not available, have your vehicle towed to the nearest Hyundai service center.

Low Fuel Level Warning Light

The low fuel light signals that your vehicle is about to run out of fuel. Head to the nearest gas station as soon as possible.

Low Tire Pressure Warning Light

This light will turn on if one or more of your tires are significantly underinflated.

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) Warning Light

This light is illuminated when your Automatic Emergency Braking system is not functioning due to being turned off, a stained cover, or a system malfunction.

Door Ajar Warning Light

This light is illuminated when one of your vehicle’s doors is not closed securely.

Trunk Open Warning Light

This light is illuminated when the trunk of your vehicle is not close securely.

Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) Warning Light

When this light turns on, there may be a problem with your electronic parking brake system. Visit your local Hyundai service center.

Master Warning Light

The LCD display in your vehicle should identify the cause of this warning light. Possibilities include a problem with your low washer, Smart cruise control, etc.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Indicator Light

If this light is blinking, that signals the ESC system is in use. If this light is not flashing, that signals a malfunction with the ESC system. If your system has malfunctioned, visit your local Hyundai service center.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) OFF Indicator Light

This light signals that your ESC system has been turned off.

Immobilizer Indicator Light (With No Smart Key)

If this light is solid, your vehicle has detected the immobilizer in your key and you can now start your engine. If this light is blinking, there is a malfunction with the immobilizer system and you should visit your local Hyundai service center.

Immobilizer Indicator Light (With Smart Key)

If this light is solid, your vehicle has detected a smart key and you can now start your engine. If this light is blinking, your vehicle cannot detect a smart key and will not start.

Turn Signal Indicator Light

This light signals the use of your turn signals. If this light does not illuminate or blink while using your turn signals, there has been a malfunction. Visit your local Hyundai service center.

High Beam Indicator Light

This indicator light signals that your high beams are currently in use.

Smart High Beam Indicator

This indicator light signals that your smart high beams are currently in use.

Light ON Indicator Light

This indicator light signals that your headlights and/or your taillights are currently in use.

Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFLS) Warning Light

This warning light indicates a malfunction with the adaptive front lighting system. Pull over in a safe location and turn off your vehicle. If the light is still on after restarting your vehicle, visit your local Hyundai service center.

Cruise Indicator Light

This indicator light signals that your cruise control is enabled.

Cruise SET Indicator Light

This indicator light signals that your cruise control speed has been set.

AUTO HOLD Indicator Light

When this indicator light is displayed as white or green, that signals the system is currently on or in use. If this indicator light is displayed as red, there is a system malfunction and you should visit your local Hyundai service center.

SPORT Mode Indicator Light

This indicator light signals that SPORT mode is currently the driving mode in use.

ECO Mode Indicator Light

This indicator light signals that ECO Mode is currently the driving mode in use.

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) Indicator Light

If this indicator light is displaying green, that means the operating conditions have been met. If the light displays as white, the operating conditions have not been met. If the light displays as yellow, this system has malfunctioned, and you should visit your local Hyundai service center.

  • Is it safe to drive with the supplimentalrestaraint system warning light on. What can cause it to come on

  • hundai-dashboard warning light was checked by gas station attendant and all tires were found to be 32. light did not go out. I was told the car is fine and to drive it for a while. light still did no go out. what should I do next?

    My hyundai elantra 2011 ESC IS OFF light is turning on after about 15 minutes. I'm not sure what's is hapenned. It feels slow and consuming more gas. I'm out of town and ge5 back tomorrow but I need to get around. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
